Located to the northwest of Canberra’s city centre, the Belconnen Town Centre is currently undergoing a renewal. The Belconnen Town Centre Master Plan, has been designed to strengthen the town centre’s role as a diverse, vital and viable place. Lately there has been an influx of residential development in the heart of the town centre which takes advantage of the leafy foreshore of Lake Ginninderra, the surrounding dining and entertainment options and the vast employment centres.
Belconnen Town Centre has a generous amount of places to eat. Emu Bank has many lakefront dining spots, though there are a variety of restaurants and cafes all over the town centre and region.
You'll always find something to do in Belconnen. Belconnen Westfield is great for shopping, and houses both a cinema and an arcade, and there's also the Belconnen Fresh Fruit Markets and ten-pin bowling in the town center. Great ways to get outdoors are to walk or ride around Lake Gininnderra, or head to the skate park. There are a number of venues in the region that host Trivia Nights, Open Mic comedy nights, as well as local live bands.
With the Canberra International Sports and Aquatic Centre (CISAC), Canberra Stadium (home of the Brumbies and Raiders) and the Australian Institute of Sport in Belconnen, it's a hub of sporting activity. Belconnen is also home to the Ginninderra Netball Club, the Belconnen Ramblers Basketball Club, and the West Belconnen Raiders Football Club.
The Belconnen Arts Centre is on Lake Ginninderra, which frequently holds events, exhibitions and classes for both children and adults.
The University of Canberra is in Belconnen, as well as a CIT campus and the Calvary Hospital. There's a variety of great public and private schools, including Radford College in Bruce.
