Peter Blackshaw Real Estate was established in 1988, by a young and forward thinking agent and our namesake of our business.
Originally from Sydney, Peter spent 10 years learning the business of property marketing in arguably Australia’s most prestigious urban residential environment of Double Bay. He grew up with a family history in Real Estate, as the Blackshaw’s were involved in property investment and development. In 1986 he sold a harbourside apartment on behalf of Sir Frank and Lady Renouf for a record $2.7 million. While working in Sydney he not only sold prime residential property, he diversified to include commercial sales involving shopping centres and office complexes.
In 1988, wanting to spread his wings to a region which would be an excellent environment to raise his family while still living in a city, he moved his family to Canberra and established his own Real Estate business in Manuka. He believed in the Canberra market and was sufficiently satisfied that it would warrant the kind of sales approach used in other major cities.
Peter was a pioneering auctioneer whose marketing flair won him the distinction of successfully negotiating the first million dollar sale in Canberra. He also won the right to be the exclusive agent in marketing the Gleneagles development, the first of it’s kind in Canberra. This development consisted of more than 400 sites surrounded by a beautiful 18 hole golf course.
Peter was and continues to believe in using auctions, especially if the market was strong, and his reputation saw him selling the majority of the quality properties within the Canberra market. His passion for the auction method of sale bought a new level of professionalism to conducting auctions in the Canberra market. This passion for the open and transparent process of an auction has continued with the Peter Blackshaw network and continues to be embraced by Peter Backshaw Real Estate marketing agents today.
As a pioneer of innovative real estate marketing, Peter was the first to develop and deliver colour advertising both in the Canberra Times and printed pamphlets. Always a step ahead of the industry he also developed the real estate online portal, allhomes.com.au which continues to be the market leader in our the Canberra region, just like the Peter Blackshaw network. By 1999, his Real Estate company Brand was well established and despite the increased competition in the industry, he realised the importance of expanding the business and the importance of offices being located in the regions in which they had business. As such franchise offices were developed in Woden and Belconnen. Gungahlin and Tuggeranong followed in 2003 and 2004 with the Queanbeyan office opening in 2010. 2015 saw the seventh franchise agreement being signed for the Molonglo region. After more than 27 years at the forefront of the Canberra real estate industry, we now have 7 offices throughout Canberra and Queanbeyan, with a staff of over 120.
