Light it up: Our edit of favourite scented candles

Scented candles can set a mood, calm the mind and soothe your soul. They have the power to make a home look and smell incredible and can warm up any space, perfect for the cooler months. Here are our favourites.

Hutwoods (Wild Jasmine and Sandalwood)

Hutwoods creates premium handmade scented candles, as well as reed diffusers, perfumes and luxurious homewares. Established in 2013, this small business proudly offers Australian made goods and is wholeheartedly committed to sustainability and recycling. Hutwoods is the creator of Blackshaw’s own candle, with their Wild Jasmine and Sandalwood candle as our signature scent.

Voluspa (Crisp Champagne)

The idea for Voluspa was born by artisans and entrepreneurs Traci and Troy Arntsen in their Californian kitchen nearly 20 years ago. Their luxury handcrafted candles are scented with botany and essential oils using the finest sustainably sourced ingredients from around the world. Try their celebratory scent Crisp Champagne, with notes of sparkling brut champagne, vanilla and barrel oak.

 

Lucian (French Pear in Marble)

Lucian is a family-owned, Canberra fragrance company. This much-loved local business creates fresh, modern and vibrant scents made in a stunning range of copper, brass, marble, glass and tin holders. Lucian also hosts soy candle making classes where you can design your own signature scent. Try their French Pear candle with the scent of freshly picked autumn pears and sweet notes of vanilla bean and cinnamon.

Peli&Co (Cinnamon Cookies)

Peli&Co is a local Canberra business that makes hand-poured soy candles, jewellery, diffusers and other handcrafted products. Peli&Co also hosts workshops, birthday parties and creative art and craft programs in the school holidays. Try their Cinnamon Cookies candle with 30 hours of burn time – it’s the perfect scent for winter.

Glasshouse (Ode to Women)

Glasshouse Fragrances was launched by Nicole Eckels in 2006 and has fast become one of the leading brands in the Australian fragrance market. Try their limited-edition scent, Ode to Women, a triple scented oriental fragrance with notes of cashmere essence, wild lavender and warm musk, designed in collaboration with artist Weronika Anna Marianna.

Diptyque (Berries)

Diptyque was created in 1961 in Paris by Christiane Montadre-Gautrot, Yves Coueslant and Desmond Knox-Leet and 60 years on, this luxury fragrance brand has boutiques in 16 countries. The most well-known scent created by this French fragrance house is its Baies Candle (Berries Candle), a fruity, fresh, floral scent that will transport you to warmer days.

The Commonfolk (Home)

The Commonfolk is an Australian fragrance brand inspired by beaches, surf, palm trees and incense. Their scented candles are created with fine fragrance oils, essential oils and Australian-made pure soy and coconut wax. Try their nostalgic Home candle encased in a beautiful amber jar and custom raw wooden lid, with over 40 hours of burn time.
